UN SECRETARY GENERAL PLEDGES TO TAKE ACTION ON JOURNALIST SAFETY

Reporters without Borders (RSF) and the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) urged UN Secretary General António Guterres to take steps to address the urgent issue of safety of journalists.                 Reporters Without Borders (RSF) Secretary General Christophe Deloire and the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) Executive Director Joel Simon met with United Nations Secretary General António Guterres today to discuss the #ProtectJournalists campaign to appoint a UN Special Representative for the safety of journalists. SOUTH SUDAN ARMY SAYS IT HAS REPULSED WUNKUR ATTACK BY REBELS

NEWS RUWENG STATE. The South Sudanese army said it repulsed on Saturday a rebel attempt to extend their control to other areas outside Ruweng state the capital of oil-producing of former unity state Heavy gunfire raged on   Saturday morning for more than 6   hours on the outskirts of panriang county of Ruweng state Between the South Sudanese army and the rebel SPLM-In Opposition, combined with foreign forces according to the information on the ground. Eyewitness said that explosions were heard to the south and west of the town, where the army claimed it repulsed attempts by rebel forces to move out the area located about  few kilometers from the Ruweng state capital   

Civilians evacuated from Wadakona after clashes: official

Civilians in Wadakona area which lies on the west bank of Upper Nile have been relocated to Renk town after heavy fighting erupted between government troops and opposition fighters in the area from  Monday  until yesterday afternoon, a government official said. Speaking to Radio Tamazuj today, Nyawela Lajok, Executive Director of Manyo County, claimed that the SPLA-IO rebels came from Kuek and attacked their positions in Wadakona area but they were repulsed, forcing them to move local residents to Renk. “As county authorities, we have relocated the citizens to Renk, all the civilians have gone to Renk, they will come back when the security situation returns to normal, so those who remained are soldiers and their wives,” said Nyawela. “The number of the civilians has not been assessed, but the number could be more than 2,000. Kenyan court adjourns two SPLM-IO officials' case until Thursday

NEWS  NAIROBI KENYA  A High Court in Kenya has adjourned its sitting on the case of two South Sudanese opposition officials who disappeared in mysterious circumstances in Nairobi last week. Dong Samuel Luak is a prominent lawyer and opposition figure who has spoken out against human rights abuses in South Sudan. Aggrey Idri Izbon is a chairman of the SPLM-IO committee for humanitarian affairs under rebel leader Riek Machar. Speaking to Radio Tamazuj today, Pouk Both Baluang, spokesman of the SPLM-IO in Kenya, said the court decided to adjourn the sitting  until Thursday after the Criminal Investigations Officer Nicholas Kamwende failed to submit a report on the disappearance of the two SPLM-IO officials. He further said all Kenyan mobile phone service providers also failed to provide data on the two missing men’s communications as requested by the high court last week.
