According to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), more than 417,000 South Sudanese refugees are sheltering in Sudan since conflict broke out in December 2013. Almost 137,000 refugees arrived from South Sudan so far this year, which is more than the total number of arrivals in 2016, the UN office of the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Sudan cites UNHCR in its   latest news bulletin . During the first half of May, almost 20,000 refugees sought assistance in Sudan as a result of ongoing hostilities in Kodok in Upper Nile state. This includes 13,645 refugees in White Nile, and a further 5,261 in South Kordofan. This latest influx has put additional pressure on service provision in camps and settlement sites, prompting UNHCR and partners to step up efforts to achieve minimum emergency standards as quickly as possible. Nearly 60,000 women are suffering from obstetric fistula in South Sudan out of which only 750 cases were treated, according to a health official. Obstetric fistula is a disease most common among women that accounts for up to 8 percent of deaths worldwide and is caused by difficulties during child birth. Acting Director of Maternal Health at South Sudan’s Ministry of Heath, Agum Issac Daniel, told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday the ministry had carried out about 40 fistula operations at Awiel Civil Hospital and 30 cases at Juba Teaching Hospital in April. She further said most of the patients suffering from the disease are undergoing stigmatization from their family members. The health official urged communities to help the women who are suffering from fistula to help them seek medical attention. “I call on the society not to abandon the women who are sick with fistula, but instead treat them normally. A Uganda registered aircraft belonging to Eagle Air has crashed shortly after take-off in Yei town, southwestern South Sudan on Saturday morning, but all 17 passengers and three crew members from Uganda survived, a crew member said. Pilot Caxton Mukasa told Radio Tamazuj that the plane was heading to Uganda. He explained that the crash was caused by an engine nozzle failure immediately after take-off from the runway in Yei town.  “We were all left shocked when I tried applying take-off gear at the extreme ends of the airstrip while on a high-speed, but unfortunately it failed and I had to break and the front tire burst and we found ourselves off the runway into the bush,” Caxton said.
