Deputy information minister sacked, reason unclear
South Sudan's President, Salva Kiir Mayardit, sacked
deputy information and communications minister Akol Paul Kordit on Monday
evening, state media reported, quoting a decree from the president.
In another decree, Kiir
appointed Lily Albino Akol Akol as the new deputy minister of information and
communications.
The decree gave no reason
for the removal of Akol who was appointed in April 2016. But Akol’s
sacking coincided with a letter he allegedly wrote to the information minister
Michael Makuei in which he said the level of Mismanagement and corruption has
reached intolerable stage in the information ministry.
“I believe you will agree
with me that what has been going on in our ministry is in total contradiction
with objectives, ideals and values for which our people fought and sacrificed
to liberate this country,” partly reads a letter dated 2 February and seen by
Radio Tamazuj.
Akol Paul had served
as leader of the youth wing in the SPLM party. He is now representing
Western Lakes State in South Sudan’s national legislative assembly.
