08.08.2016-U.S ambassador to South Sudan, Mary Catherine (Molly) Phee has referred to the SPLM-IO Nairobi faction as irresponsible.

Ambassador Mary shared her sentiments on Miriya FM’s morning show today. In a lengthy interview, Mary said it was so irresponsible of the SPLM-IO to keep calling for attacks on South Sudan’s towns including Juba.

Machar’s spokesman, James Gadet Dak and former water and Irrigation minister in TGoNU, Mabior Deng have been on record in the international press sanctioning attacks on South Sudan from their SPLM-IO military forces.

Whereas Ambassador Mary acknowledged the government’s superiority in weapons and numbers of armed forces she decried the perpetual conflicts which she feared were near ethno in make.
“If you fought against discrimination and racism, why should you then inflict the same in your country?” Mary questioned.

She gave assurances about the goodwill of the UNMISS and other international players who she said had, “no ill intention” in their operations in South Sudan.

The UNMISS has had a strained relationship with the government of what some elements government believe is a conspiracy to effect regime change in South Sudan. Many view it as leaning towards the then rebels, a notion affirmed when guns and bombs were found on transit in a relief consignment in Rumbek.
She called on the government to cooperate with the relief and humanitarian agencies to help improve the lives of the masses in South Sudan. She further noted how access to displaced and other persons in need was by restrained by government authorities and insecurity yet everybody has atleast had a relative benefit from relief aid.

The strong and blunt attack on the SPLM-IO over their war-threats seem to point to a change in tide of the political wind with the hitherto “victim” play act played by SPLM-IO coming out of it’s shelve.
She registered frustration over failure to exploit the conflict mitigating avenues inherent in the peace agreement.

The SPLM-IO have always played victim but it’s now clear who the instigators of war are in a country that relies on over $2.5 billion of aid annually.
