Unknown disease kills two people in Eastern Lakes: official




A strange disease, whose symptoms include bleeding and fever, has killed two people and three patients were admitted to the hospital in Yirol town in Eastern Lakes state last week.
“There are about three cases, two died and one survived,” Bor Wutchiok, governor of Eastern Lakes state, told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday.
The top state official revealed that domestic animals and wild birds were also found dead due to the same disease. He pointed out that the international health organizations and state ministry of health are investigating the disease.
For its part, the World Health Organization (WHO) said it supported the deployment of an additional team from the National Ministry of Health, Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries to coordinate monitor and supervise the response in Yirol East County.
It pointed out that public awareness has been heightened to ensure that any person who has fever and bleeding and two or more other symptoms such as headache, vomiting and joint pains is immediately reported to the health facilities.
“Any deaths of people who developed high fever and bleeding should also be reported quickly to health authorities,” the organization said.
Haemorrhagic illness can be caused by a wide range of diseases – including Rift Valley Fever, Crimean- Congo hemorrhagic fever, dengue, as well as Lassa fever and Marburg.

Machar not ready to return to Juba in May.

South Sudan’s former First Vice President, and leader of the main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, Dr. Riek Machar, is reportedly not ready to return to Juba in May as part of a peace agreement signed six months ago. President Salva Kiir Mayardiit and the opposition leader signed the deal on September 12th in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa following months of tough negotiations in the Sudanese capital Khartoum by their delegations who only had an August 5th dateline to reach a preliminary deal. The agreement, also know as the Revitalized ARCSS, set forth a 8-months pre-transitional period within which security arrangements and relevant preparations for the would-be transitional government. Museveni’s advise to Kiir: Colonial boundaries the best option, but prioritize citizens’ welfare

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has advised South Sudanese leaders not be consumed by fights over boundaries, saying they should instead channel their efforts towards improving the welfare and incomes of the citizens. President Museveni made the remarks on Thursday, during a meeting with President Salva Kiir at the state house in Entebbe – Uganda. In the bilateral meeting, President Kiir briefed his host on the progress of implementation of the Peace Agreement, indicating that it was largely on course with the exception of a few issues that needed to be resolved.
